John David La Touche

John David LaTouche was not only a director the Bank of Ireland he was also actively involved in the setting up the bank.. With his father and other members of the LaTouche family they subscribed £48,800 to the initial £600,000 of subscribed stock.

As a family they were actively involved in many charities and John was also governor of the House of Industry.  The family helped to finance the establishment of the Magdalene Asylum for reformed prostitutes in the 1790s.

In 1834 William Digges LaTouche and his brother Peter were paid £6815 by the British Government as compensation for 286 slaves following the abolition of slavery.http://www.thejournal.ie/readme/irish-slaveowners-compensation-1587899-Jul2014
